Lindsey powers to new record
YAMBA triathlete Lindsey Wall broke his own record in his first Clarence Valley Triathlon Club race of the season.
On a day when personal bests came thick and fast, Wall didn't disappoint breaking his own club record, which he set last January, by 25 seconds.
Wall has been displaying some great early season form on the back of a solid series of race results last season.
He took advantage of his home track and the near ideal race conditions, posting a 56min 6sec club record time.
His race comprised a hot 500m swim a tad over 6min, a very slick sub-29min 19km cycle leg and then brought it home with an impressive 17min 5km run.
"I was really surprised because I went into the race a little bit tired after a really heavy training day on Saturday," Wall said.
"I use the club races as another training hitout.
"It's good race practice and good fun.
"They use a handicap system so I'm waiting more than half an hour after the first person starts.
"Then I have to chase them down, which is a bit of fun."
Personal best times for the season were recorded by 14 of the 19 athletes who had already raced this season.
Dale Wearing led the way, crossing the line first on handicap after improving his best time by nearly 6min, showing what a difference a more efficient bike can make to race results.
Pat Bowen, with a season personal best by nearly 4min, came home second and showing the benefits of some longer distance run training he had been working on in recent months.
Kim Ryan grabbed third and joined the PB party with a season-best time nearly 3min 30sec the better with improvements on all three race legs, most notably in the swim.
Meanwhile, Scott Acton, who also ran a strong run leg to finish in fourth place, lowered his PB by 3min.
Other triathletes to record season-best times were Alexa Leary, Veronica Barker, Scott Lenton, Mark Pirie, Chris Ryan, Kim Elvery, Kane Hancock, David Lovell, Darren Adams and Adam Cartmell.
Competitors who participated in their first club race for the season, other than the speedy Lindsey Wall, were his father David Wall, Russell Leary, Steve Smith, Michael Salvestro and Jane Wilson.
Janine Burley completed a half-distance race in her first race of the season.
