Adrian Coppin is the fresh face in Australian rallying. At 27, he is the youngest full-time driver contesting the Australian Rally Championship (ARC), and youngest driver to sign with Citroen Racing, leading their first Australian campaign.
Currently 3rd in the Australian Championship, Adrian has quickly risen to the top of his sport, winning Australian titles and competing internationally, just in four short years behind the wheel.
Adrian had his first taste of motorsport in the form of circuit racing, but quickly sought a greater challenge, one answered by rallying. Making the switch in 2009, Adrian took class honours at his
first ever event and hasn’t looked back since.
After only 2 years behind the wheel, Adrian secured second in class at his international debut at the Australian round of the World Rally Championship. The following year, Adrian competed in selected rounds of the ARC and was hot favourite to take out the junior title. But his hopes were shattered by an unfortunate early retirement from the season, due to team constraints. It wasn’t a year wasted though, with Adrian headhunted by Ford Australia during the off season to spearhead their return to the sport.
2013 saw Adrian back with his own team and scores to settle, debuting Ford’s new car to the Australian market. Making up for the dream taken from him the previous year, Adrian won the 2013 Australian 1600 Championship and the season title for Ford Australia in the category. His efforts gained international attention and he was invited to compete in Rally Croatia the same year, making his European Rally Championship debut, and marking another milestone in his comparatively short career.
After his success with Ford, Adrian was signed by Citroen Australia for the 2014 season. The prestigious manufacturer has claimed nine world championships and was looking for results with their new venture
down under. Settling in well to the new team, Adrian has competed strongly so far this season, currentlysitting in third place.
In August, Adrian made his international world championship debut at Rallye Deutschland, rd 9 of this year World Rally Championship (WRC) making him one of only four drivers to represent Australia at this level. It’s an exciting time for Adrian in a career which has seen him go from strength to strength, rising quickly through the ranks and with an incredibly bright future ahead.
