Our Top Outdoor Aussie Activities!

Australians are blessed with a never-ending list of awesome outdoor activities right at our doorstep. Our country is rugged and sun-kissed, providing the ultimate setting for both on-land and water activities. From snorkelling to four-wheel-driving, hiking or water-skiing, you will never need to be bored.

With so many exhilarating things to do, we thought we would put together a list of our top 10 favourite things to do in Australia. Next time you are looking for something to do, why not try one of the following?...

Surfing

Being the biggest island on the plant, Australia is one of the top surfing destinations in the world. If you have learnt how to surf, you will know that it is addictive! Riding a wave is a breathless experience. It gets the adrenaline pumping through your body. Surfing not only feels good, it is also the perfect cardiovascular workout. Constant paddling through the water improves muscle strength in the arms and back whilst also increasing your heart rate.

Skydiving

This one is certainly not for the faint-hearted. However, if you are brave enough to take the leap, we know you won’t regret it! Not only is the world even more beautiful from the tranquillity of the sky, conquering your fears feels amazing. Skydiving is the chance to experience something truly amazing, plus, it will make your friends and family insanely jealous!

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is the perfect way to bring some adventure into your life. Getting out and about on your mountain bike allows you to get up close and personal with nature, something that is therapeutic for the soul. It is definitely a killer of a workout, and it sure beats going to the gym. When you have some free time, why not pick a destination and go for a ride?

Hiking

Hiking is the ideal way to increase your activity level whilst offering several physical and mental health benefits. Regularly hiking helps to improve your fitness and energy levels, ultimately burning calories and working off any additional weight you might need. Aside from the physical benefits, hiking can help elevate your mood. Exploring a new scenic area is perfect for easing your nerves and lifting your spirits. Why not take a friend, find a national park, and go off on an adventure for the day?

Kayaking

While this can be done through all seasons of the year, Kayaking is most fun in the Summer. Soak up the sun whilst paddling around your favourite bay, and dive in when the heat gets too much! It is a relaxing activity, but also adventurous. It allows you to get close with nature, and it’s a fun thing to do with friends. Find your closest lake, hire a kayak, and have some fun.

Camping

Camping is an unforgettable adventure for everyone, no matter how young or old! It’s affordable (mostly!), and the ideal opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family. Cook outdoors, see the stars, and re-connect with nature. Pick a national park, a friend’s farm, the beach, or even your backyard, invest in a small tent, get the family together to enjoy a weekend of making new memories.

Four-Wheel Driving

Four-wheel drive vehicles are capable of transporting you to unique, isolated places most other people can’t access. Campsites that require four-wheel drive access are usually a lot quieter and more spectacular than those that can be accessed by everyone. Why not combine four-wheel driving with some camping, kayaking, hiking, and even surfing, for the ultimate adventure?

Fishing

Whilst some may consider fishing to be boring, we think that a fishing trip is a relaxing weekend activity that is perfect to do with family and friends. It’s not just about hooking a fish, but about socialising, and getting close with nature. If it’s Summer, why not go for a swim as well? Or in the Winter, light a campfire and toast some marshmallows. Canals, lakes, rivers, dams, or even the ocean, is perfect for throwing in a line. Just make sure you have a licence and permission to fish in the location you choose.

Bushwalking

If you’re not up for hiking, bushwalking is the other option. Experience being away from civilisation for a while. Immerse yourself in the serenity of the environment, plus a little bit of exercise has never hurt anyone. You don’t have to go to the most challenging places, just pack the essentials and go for a walk to somewhere you haven’t been before.

So, next time you have a free weekend, why not get your friends and family together, and choose three activities from this list. Spend the weekend surfing, kayaking and fishing, or four-wheel drive to a new camping ground and take a hike to checkout the new scenery. We guarantee you won’t get bored, and you will create new memories that will last a lifetime!
